God is good!

When I left the hospital tonight, Malachi was sleeping soundly in his bed IN MODULE ONE!!  We are out of the PICU!  Not only that, but we are completely OFF the nitric AND down to ONLY 25% oxygen support!  Can you sense my enthusiasm?!?! I'm ecstatic!

I really do not think I can adequately put into words how God displayed His majesty in the life of our son.  Let me give you a quick outline of the past week:

Tuesday: Care conference with NICU doctor.  By the end of the conversation, John and I were under the impression that the doctors had run out of options for Malachi.  There were no more tests.  His sats were dropping and there was nothing they could do.  We were told to consider switching Malachi to "comfort measures only."

Wednesday morning:  We stop at the church on the way to the hospital, very heavy-hearted, to have a discussion with our pastor regarding life support issues and Christian doctrine regarding babies that die.  Hard stuff.

Wednesday afternoon:  Arrive at the hospital.  We learn that Malachi has been scheduled for heart surgery the next morning. (Immediate answer to prayer!)  Meet with another NICU doc to get his opinion regarding Malachi's outlook.  Not good.  His thoughts were that the best way for Malachi to heal would probably be through dying. Unfortunately, we see Malachi every day, and we knew that he was probably right.

Thursday morning:  Arrive at the hospital at like 5:30 AM to hold and spend time with Malachi before surgery.  Shortly after being placed in John's arms, he is back in SVT with heart rates in the high 200s.  Not good.  Surgery postponed.  Waiting, waiting, and more waiting... Mid-afternoon they take him for surgery and we wait.

Thursday night:  Settled in to his room in the PICU.  Not a good night.  Quite a few desats that required "bagging", blood pressures issues, and heart rate issues.

Friday:  Recovering, sedated, less oxygen, less nitric.

Saturday: Recovering, sedated, less oxygen, less nitric.

Sunday:  Recovering, sedated, less oxygen, NO NITRIC.

Monday:  Still recovering, still heart rhythm issues; but AWAKE, no nitric, and only 25% oxygen support.  His heart rate tends to stay between 90-110, blood pressures have been mostly stable, and his oxygen saturation levels are consistently between 75 and 85--this is PERFECT for the type of heart disease he still has.

To go from a very, very, VERY dire outlook less than one week ago to a completely different baby can only, only, ONLY be explained as a work of God.  To Him be the glory!

His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"
"Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.
(John 9:2-3)
