new day... new doc...

I include this old picture, because I didn't want the next one to be the only pic on this post. This was pre-surgery (hence the ET tube) and I'm sure Malachi can't wait to get back into a big boy crib so that he can be entertained by his mobiles and other play-type things. Hopefully after his first trach change on Wednesday, Malachi will be able to upgrade to a crib and then we should be able to hold him soon and sit him up in a boppy, those types of things. Child Life Services was contacted today and they are going to begin Music Therapy and start teaching more intentional play techniques that I can do with Chi unique to HIS needs... PERFECT!

This is a picture of his nasty IV burn. I realize that it could be worse, but it saddens me and freaks me out that it happened with a scalp IV. Poor guy.

Want to end on a good note...

There is a new doctor on rotation who started today. My first impression of her was a good one. She was very much concerned about Malachi from a "normal baby development" standpoint. She immediately asked for a consult to be made to Child Life Services to get the ball rolling on more play and things for him as opposed to just the PT/OT he was getting pre-op. It's not that these things weren't important to the other doctors, but we weren't sure Malachi would even get to the point where we'd be able to start looking at a few "normal" baby things. She was also very straightforward with wanting to know what is important for me and john as parents for the care of our baby. overall, it was a good meeting and I am thankful that I was able to be there for her first official rounds on Malachi and see initially what her thoughts were. It also helps that she relayed to me that she was told good things about John and I's involvement with Malachi. It's nice to know that they know that we know what they are talking about and his current diagnoses and treatments. Does that make sense? Oh, we're now back to a more normal weight (he peed off quite a bit of that extra fluid). 13 1/2 pounds sounds much better to me than 15! He looks much less puffy. Like my little boy again!

Oh, and I got a 3+ hour nap in this evening. Pray that I can fall asleep in an expedient matter.
