Vent training COMPLETE

During one of our many breaks for vent class, we got some coffee and stopped down at the RMH to see if there were any breakfast goodies. Perfect timing! Panera had JUST dropped off a huge load of baked goodies and I POUNCED on these blueberry scones. Delicious!

Spending time with Mr. Malachi.

Our individual check-offs required us take Malachi out of his bed and put him on his "transport". Usually, we then take a walk for the amount of time that he would be in the car to get home, but he had been kind of sick this week and we didn't want to risk him catching anything serious from someone in a different part of the hospital.

So here John has moved him from his bed into his carseat and switched him over to the ventilator that we'll have at home (LTV 950) to make sure he tolerates it. In this picture you can see the belt/band that we can use if we don't want to use the sticky pads that hook up to his cardiac/apnea monitor. Also, the syringe attached to his car seat handle is connected to his G-tube and "up to burp".

Side view: You can see the ventilator tubing. The piece of equipment closest to Chi's feet is the cardiac/apnea monitor. Then the one with the big white lid attached is the suction machine. Missing from the picture is his pulse oximeter which will tell us his heart rate and oxygen saturation levels.

Back view: His oxygen tank and ventilator hanging from the handles. Also, the coiled black wire is attached from the ventilator to the read the amount of oxygen that Malachi is getting. And then the portable battery for the ventilator
Vent training is complete... We passed our home inspection... Now we have our nursing shifts to finish.

  1. My goodness, Marissa. And I thought we had a lot to deal with in Micah's early days with just a cardiac/apnea monitor and feeding pump everywhere we went!

Your family is in my prayers DAILY. I don't know how you do it, but your positive spirit and grace are such an inspiration.

Get a good calendar, if you don't have one. You'll have a LOT of appointments in the first months home, as I'm sure you already know. We also put a white board on our fridge to keep track of feeding and medication times, important numbers and reminders, etc.

Hugs from a fellow CHARGE mommy,
    Amy
