Disability and Waiver

Our caseworker is in the process of helping us get everything straightened out and situated so that Malachi can receive the care that he needs without our family becoming completely impoverished. The way that it all works out is still confusing to me, but here is kind of where we stand. Our initial application for medicaid disability has been canceled for now, but we will be on the waitlist for medicaid waiver. Malachi will have medicaid for his first year (the only complications we might have with that at this time will be in regard to home nursing care). This is the interesting part. In order to really get the best care for Malachi, we will need to be switched over to medicaid disability. With just our income, we easily fall below the eligibility guidelines for medicaid disability. However, because we've been smart, responsible, and frugal with our money, we have too much that would fall into the category of "assets" (savings, life insurance, retirement accounts), and therefore would no longer qualify for medicaid disability. That is, unless we received a medicaid waiver. The "waiver" completely sets aside our income and our assets and simply allows us to get the necessary medical care that Malachi requires in his complex condition. BUT, you can't get the waiver unless you first have medicaid disability. Go figure. There are ways to get around this (appeals, waitlists, etc.). God has promised to provide for those who love and trust Him. We rest in that promise. If all of this government assistance does not fall into place, so be it. We are obviously willing to do what we must in order to give Malachi and Emerson anything they need. We know that we certainly are not entitled to any additional assistance, as some believe they are. But boy won't that make things a smidge easier for us!

Longer-term prayer requests:
*The right home nurses for our situation.
*We will receive Medicaid waiver before Malachi turns 1.
*Our second car holds out on us.
*We would be able to get back into a house again since China plans are indefinitely on hold.
