Moving Day
John was able to spend more time with Malachi today than I was, so this post is primarily coming from his point of view (disregard the fact that it may switch from third person, to first person, and back to third person again--I did the typing and it's late and I don't have the energy to go back and revise it!):
Apparently our little man is more of a fighter than we had already thought. He was able to move back up to the NICU today! We weren't expecting him to be moved until Monday. He was put in module 3--a different room than when we were originally transferred to Riley. Instead of being upset that we weren't in the same room that we had been in before, John had started to think that there may have been somebody that we were supposed to meet in the new place, that this would have been another opportunity for ministry. A move to module 1 just would have been an easier transition back to the NICU for us because we were already familiar with the nurses in that unit.
When John first showed up to the hospital today, CHi's blood pressure was kind of high. He did not know this at the time. John sat down and notice that he was making little movements. The nurse said, "Don't move." John said, "Okay?" "That's the lowest his blood pressure has been since he came up to the NICU." John didn't move. While they were sitting like this, Chi remained stable. It appeared as if Malachi had fallen asleep, so John went out into the hall to get reception on his phone to give me a call and let me know everything was going well. When he got back into the NICU, the nurse said, "He must of realized you had left, because when you left the blood pressure went right back up."
The rest of the evening went pretty well. John stayed for shift change and right after the nurses had done their report another nurse that John had remembered from Module 1 (where we were originally placed) came in and caused some trouble. The nurse who was just beginning her shift in module 3 stated, "Well, apparently he's going back over to module 1." John was kind of surprised. One of the module 3 nurses said we must have requested it or something and all they knew was that Chi was going to be heading over to Module 1. John made it clear to the nurses in Module 3 that we didn't have anything against them, he hadn't complained or anything like that! Apparently a bed opened up (the exact bed that he was in before) and the nurses in Module 1 wanted Chi to be moved back in with them.
Moral of the story: Chi is already a ladies man ;) and has those nurses wrapped around his little (super long) finger.
After the transfer, John said his goodbyes to Chi and left him in stable condition. He even made it home in time to put Emma to bed for the night.
Today God showed us that even if we weren't supposed to necessarily minister to someone specifically in module 3, we had been willing to do so. Sometimes things change and we're taken out of our comfort zone (ahem, the last three weeks!) and it is a good opportunity for growth. I think God giving us peace throughout the intended move to module 3 is just continual affirmation that He is working in our lives every day. Over and over we have seen proof that He is taking care of Malachi and the rest of our family. Not only is God proving faithful in providing spiritual and physical comfort, but He is also allowing for situations that are uncomfortable. Both the comfortable and the uncomfortable come from the same hand of God, and each are being used to stretch and encourage our faith in Him.
