11/13/2009

Not too much to update. He's swollen from all the meds and things they are pumping into him at the moment. His skin is closed, but the sternum is still open. They had to go in and fix the central line this morning as it was slowly dislodging again. Thankfully, the doctor was able to fix it first try. There was a little concern post-surgery regarding his lactate level as it was EXTREMELY high. However, it has since come down and the doctors are no longer worried about it. The plan is to keep him stable and keep tweaking venilator settings and drip infusion settings to keep things at an optimal state for him. So right now we just kind of sit around and try to stay busy. It's hard because we want to be close, but its VERY HARD to see Malachi in this paralyzed state, completely limp. He has been moved from the NICU to the PICU (pediatric intensive care unit). Here, he has his own room and a nurse who is pretty much in there at all times. It is comforting to know all the care he is constantly receiving and that we can call at ANY time to be updated and see how things are going with him. It's been a long, long, very long past 48 hours and we are ready for bed. Thank you for your prayers. They are appreciated more than you will ever know.
